INTRODUCTION
Paloma: In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question "What time is it?"

Lesson focus

Paloma: In Portuguese this is
Felipe: Que horas são?
Paloma: The first word in the question is

Felipe: (Slow, by syllable) que
Paloma: Listen again and repeat.
Felipe: que
{Pause}
Paloma: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Felipe: horas

Felipe: horas
{Pause}
Paloma: Listen to the speaker say, "It's 11 o'clock," and then repeat.
Felipe: São onze horas.
{pause}
Paloma: To use a different phrase, replace "11 o'clock" with "two and ten," for ten minutes after 2
Felipe: duas e dez
Paloma: "two and ten"
Felipe: (slow) duas e dez (regular) duas e dez
Paloma: Listen to the phrase again, this time with "two and ten."
Felipe: São duas e dez.
Paloma: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace "11 o'clock." Say "It's ten after two."
{pause}
Felipe: São duas e dez.
Paloma: To use a different phrase, replace "two and ten" with "three and fifteen."
Felipe: três e quinze
Paloma: "three and fifteen"
Felipe: (slow) três e quinze (regular) três e quinze
Paloma: Listen to the phrase again, this time with "three and fifteen."
Felipe: São três e quinze.
Paloma: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the Portuguese for "two and ten." Say "It's three fifteen."
{pause}
Felipe: São três e quinze.
Paloma: To expand on the pattern, replace "three and fifteen" with "five and a half."
Felipe: cinco e meia
Paloma: "five and a half"
