Welcome to White Board lessons.
Today, we're going to talk about well-being in Portuguese.
Okay, first, let's see the vocabulary.
Bem
Bem means "good"
muito bem
muito bem means "very good"
mais ou menos
mais ou menos literally means “plus or minus”
mais ou menos means "so-so"
Mal
Mal means “bad”
não muito bem
não muito bem means “not so good”
Feliz
Feliz means "happy"
triste
Triste means “sad”
ótimo
ótimo is the masculine form and ótima is the feminine form for “great”
Ótimo, ótima
cansado
cansado is for masculine and cansada is the feminine form
cansado and cansada mean “tired”
And last,
bravo
bravo is the masculine form and brava is the feminine form
Bravo, brava, mean “angry”

So this is a very basic conversation you have in Brazil.
So let's see another ways you can answer the same question.
Como você está?
Eu estou ótimo.
Or, if you’re a woman, you’d say - Eu estou ótima.
"I'm great."

Eu estou mais ou menos.
"I'm so-so."
Como você está?
Eu estou mal.
"I'm bad."

Another very common way to say "how are you?" in Brazil is - tudo bem?
Tudo bem? is more casual, and you can take it as a rhetorical question.
So if someon asks you, tudo bem? You usually answer tudo bem.
Tudo bem literally means “all good” so if someon asks you, tudo bem? “All good?”, and you answer tudo bem, “all good.”
If you ask Como você está?, you're really interested to know how that person is doing.
