Hi everybody, here's Paloma.
Welcome to Whiteboard Lessons.
Today we're going to talk about
giving someone your phone number in Portuguese.
Okay, let's jump right into the vocabulary.
Zero
Zero
Um
One
Dois
two
Três
three
Quatro
four
Cinco
five
Seis
For six, you can also use meia.
For saying the number six
meia.
We use meia because it means actually half.
So it actually comes from half a dozen
meia-dúzia
So that's the number six, right?
Sete
seven
Oito
eight
Last one is
nove
nine.
Now let's see the dialogue.
O seu número de telefone, por favor.
Your phone number, please.
O meu número de telefone é onze, três, um, nove, oito, sete, meia, cinco, quatro.
My phone number is 11-3198-7654.
So for this first number that is called the DT,
we usually say the number, for example,
onze, or here we also have intercept, three, seven, instead of um, um, or três, sete.
okay
So the reading for this one is onze.
onze
okay
Let's see some more examples.
O meu número de telefone é
onze, quatro, nove, nove, três, quatro, nove, nove, três.
My phone number is 11-4993-4993.
O meu número de telefone é
trinta e sete, nove, quatro, quatro, três, cinco, meia, meia, oito, sete.
My phone number is 37-944356687.
You can also say
seis, seis, oito, sete.
Right
And for this one, trinta e sete, that's how you write it.
trinta e sete
ok
So as you can see, the pair is o meu número de telefone é
and then the number.
My phone number is and then number.
So as I said before, the number that comes before the phone number is called the DT,
for example, onze or trinta e sete.
Those are the area codes in Brazil.
For example, onze is São Paulo and 21, vinte e um, that's really the German room.
Another thing from Brazil is that the numbers that start with nine are cell phones.
So this one would be a cell phone.
ok
That is not a number there, no?
But yeah, I can see that from the nine it's from a cell phone number.
And this one that starts with a four or a three, those are house numbers.
