Ei, gente! tudo bem? Paloma here. Welcome to Portuguese Weekly Words, Holiday edition! Today we are going to talk about Tiradentes' Day.
1. Tiradentes "Tiradentes"
Tiradentes is a Brazilian national hero, he was part of Inconfidência Mineira, a group of people that was planning a revolution in Minas Gerais state.
O dia de Tiradentes é dia 21 de abril. "Tiradentes' Day is on April 21st."
2. Minas Gerais "general mines"
A state in Brazil where Tiradentes was from. Minas Gerais means “general mines”, that means was for a long time, minas was very important for Brazil because they were mining place, so a lot of the gold that they used in Europe actually comes from Brazil. Also there’s one city where Tiradentes was from, and now it’s named “Tiradentes City”.
Tem muitas cidades históricas em Minas Gerais. "There are a lot of historical cities in Minas Gerais."
3. Inconfidência Mineira "Minas Gerais Conspiracy"
So this is called Inconfidência or “Conspiracy" because actually the revolution didn’t happened, because they killed everyone before anything happen. One person of the group actually told the policemen about their plan because he was owing a lot of money to the court. So that’s why it didn’t become a revolution, and only a conspiracy.

4. mártir "martyr"
Tiradentes is considered the martyr, or the hero, of the Inconfidência Mineira, that’s why he’s so important to Brazilian history.
Tiradentes é o mártir da Inconfidência Mineira. "Tiradentes is the martyr of the Minas Gerais Conspiracy."
5. Semana da Inconfidência "Conspiracy Week"
Eu quero ir pra Tiradentes durante a semana da Inconfidência. "I want to go to Tiradentes during the Conspiracy Week."
