Eric: And welcome to Culture Class: Essential Brazilian Portuguese Vocabulary, Lesson 3! In this lesson you'll learn five essential words related to food and drink. Eric: Guaraná is the name of an Amazonian fruit, but it usually refers to the soft drink made from this fruit. The most popular brand is Guaraná Antarctica.

Eric: A batida is a cocktail made of an alcohol, a fruit, and condensed milk. Basically any fruit can be used, but the most popularly seen are passionfruit, coconut, lime, strawberry, and pineapple. The alcohol in a batida is most often cachaça or vodka.

Eric: Erice infusion is a popular drink in many South American countries. It's especially consumed in the Southern region and places near the border with Spanish-speaking countries. In other regions of Brazil, Erice tea is also consumed, usually in the form of the toasted version in tea bags, or as ready-to-drink iced tea.
