Lesson Transcript

Hi everyone! Iโ€™m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
Weโ€™ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that youโ€™ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, weโ€™ll learn conversational phrases to answer the question โ€œWhat's the matter?โ€ After watching this video, youโ€™ll be able to make complaints and ask someone else if theyโ€™re having any issues.
Now, letโ€™s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
Estรก tudo bem?
O escritรณrio estรก quente.
Once more with the English translation.
Estรก tudo bem?
โ€œWhat's the matter?โ€
O escritรณrio estรก quente.
โ€œThe office is hot.โ€
First of all you'll need to learn how to say โ€œWhat's the matter?โ€
That's: Estรก tudo bem?
Listen to it again: Estรก tudo bem?, Estรก tudo bem?
โ€œWhat's the matter?โ€
This Portuguese sentence literally translates into "Is everything alright?,โ€ but it means โ€œWhat's the matter?โ€ in English.
Now, how do you answer this question?
The pattern is:
O escritรณrio estรก {adjective}.
โ€œThe office is {adjective}.โ€
For example:
โ€œThe office is hot.โ€
O escritรณrio estรก quente., O escritรณrio estรก quente.
