Oi gente! Tudo bem? This is Jade Furuta, and welcome to Portuguese Weekly Words. And today’s theme is Sports. Do you like sports? |
1. basquete "basketball" |
O basquete é muito popular nos Estados Unidos. "Basketball is very popular in USA." |
In Brazil, nobody knows much about basketball; it's all about soccer, and a little bit of volleyball. |
2. beisebol "baseball" |
It’s the same, just the intonation changed a little bit. |
Softbol é parecido com beisebol. "Softball is similar to baseball." |
I used to play softball during PE classes when I was in junior high school. Yeah, I wasn’t bad, actually. |
3. futebol "football/soccer" |
Futebol é o esporte do Brasil. "Soccer is the sport of Brazil." |
4. natação "swimming" |
Eu fiz aulas de natação quando criança. "I took swimming classes when I was a kid." |
But actually I am not a good swimmer I can dance, though, I can dance samba. |
5. pingue-pongue "ping-pong" |
See! Almost the same. |
Você sabe jogar pingue-pongue? "Do you know how to play ping-pong?" |
I don’t. |
