| Thássia: The Memorial da América Latina or “Latin America Memorial” is a large museum in São Paulo designed by famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. It represents the multi-national effort of Brazilians and other countries in middle and south America to unite to overcome their shared difficulties. |
| Braden: Gathering together as a community to overcome difficulty is a very Brazilian sentiment and to me the Memorial da América Latina is a visible example of that spirit. |

| Thássia: In this lesson we’ll learn the phrase “o que houve.” |
| Braden: “O que houve?” has a similar meaning and use as “what’s the matter?”, “what happened?” or “what’s wrong?” In the dialogue for this lesson, Renata asked “O que houve Michael?” to mean “What’s wrong Michael?” |
| Thássia: The next expression we’ll look at is “na hora.” “Na hora” translates to "in the hour" but means “on time” and is used the same way as in English. |
| Braden: In the dialogue, Renata commented about being on time, “Nunca conseguimos chegar na hora” which we translated as “We can’t ever arrive on time.” |
| Thássia: Next we have the word “reforma.” “Reforma” is the Portuguese word for “refurbishment” or “remodel.” In the dialogue we heard Machael saying “Hoje é o último dia de visita ao museu antes da reforma” to mean “Today was the last day before the remodel.” |
| Braden: Our last expression we’ll look at today is “bem mais tarde.” |
| Thássia: “bem mais trade” means “much later” or “quite a bit later.” In the dialogue, Carla said “Ele fica aberto até bem mais tarde” to mean “It’s open much later.” |

| Braden: In the dialogue we heard, "Não faz essa cara Michael." which we translated as "Don’t make that face, Michael.” |
| Thássia: the word "faz" is a conjugated form of the verb fazer. The verb fazer means “to make” or “to do.” and is an irregular verb.That means even though it is technically an -er verb, it doesn’t follow the regular conjugation patterns we learned in Absolute Beginner Season 2 lesson 9. |

| Braden: and Onde fazemos exercícios? literally translates to “Where do we make exercises?” but it means "Where do we exercise?" |
| Thássia: “Fazer” has many meanings and is a frequently used verb in Portuguese expressions. |
| Braden: For example, the phrase faz tempo translates to makes time but it means It's been a long time. |
| Thássia: and the expression fazer 27 anos literally translates to makes 27 years but it means to turn 27 years old. |
| Braden: And one last example is the expression fazer ligação which translates to make connection but means to call someone as in call them on the phone. |
| Thássia: The verb fazer is one of the top 10 most used irregular verbs in Portuguese. |
